New Spring 2025 Elective Course taught by Professor Marisa Ensor
In Spring 2025, JUPS Professor Marisa O Ensor will offer a course on “Climate Change, Conflict and Displacement,”, drawing on her fieldwork in over 20 countries affected by environmental fragility and insecurity across the world. Climate change, conflict, and displacement are increasingly interconnected. As extreme weather events and environmental conditions worsen, they are contributing to multiple and overlapping crises, threatening human rights, increasing poverty and loss of livelihoods, straining peaceful relations between communities and, ultimately, creating conditions for further insecurity and displacement. Dr Ensor’s work for several UN agencies and other humanitarian and environmental organizations focuses on the identification of actionable solutions for the mitigation of climate change, the promotion of intersectional climate justice, and the advancement of peace and security. The course will leverage these experiences to provide students with a deeper understanding of the diverse circumstances facing the affected populations, and the policy responses that have been developed to address this increasingly urgent issue.
