JUPS at the CALL
DC Immersive Semester in Justice & Peace Studies
Live your major or minor at the CALL!
Offered jointly by the Program in Justice & Peace Studies (JUPS) and Capitol Applied Learning Labs (CALL)
The Justice and Peace Studies Program has partnered with the Capitol Applied Learning Labs (CALL) program to offer a cohort-based, immersive semester for JUPS majors and minors on Georgetown’s Capitol Campus. This opportunity allows students to:
- Make meaningful progress toward the major or minor while spending a semester on the Capitol Campus
- Participate in an JUPS-related internship (minimum 20 hours per week) within a course schedule designed to support full-time enrollment
- Engage more intentionally with the broader Washington, D.C. community
This immersive semester reflects the Program’s commitment to engaging justice not as an abstract ideal, but as an ongoing practice shaped by institutions and communities. In Washington, D.C., students witness how efforts toward peace, justice, equity, and human dignity unfold within complex social systems.
Major Courses
The DC Immersive Semester partnership allows our declared majors/minors to take required and elective courses at the Capitol Campus. Below are examples of courses offered:
- JUPS-2039, Human Rights, Academic Freedoms
- JUPS-XXXX, Nonprofits on the Frontlines of Democracy
- CULP-2320, Civic Geography and Public Works (x-listed with JUPS)
- PHIL-2900, Law and Justice (x-listed with JUPS)
Students can also take other CALL courses that are rooted in experiential learning and round out their schedule based on interests and desired skill-building.
Internship Credit
Students will be supported in finding an internship relevant to their Justice and Peace Studies interests through hands-on 1:1 coaching, bringing an applied dimension to their study. That internship forms the basis of the CALL’s signature experiential learning course, UNXD-2925, CALL Internship Seminar. Students receive 2 credits for participating in the seminar, and 2 credits for their internship, totalling 4 internship credits.
